Overview (top)
Our online software is very easy to use. For help on almost any topic, just click the heading above. The following is an overview of our online software.
After you create a user name and password, you will:
- Enter your postal mailing address where you wish to opt out from postal junk mail and add other members of your household (who you may freely add to your account at any time).
- Select the Publications you wish to stop from our extensive database (see how).
- Pay a subscription fee for a license to use our online junk mail list removal software. Access will allow you to cancel new junk mail items when they arrive. $1.00 of your membership proceeds go to American Forests.
- Opt out of publications renting and selling your personal information.
Each time you use our online software, it generates a personalized letter directly from you to each solicitor, requesting each to remove you from its mailing list. Depending on how the solicitor is set up to receive such notices, your letter may be transmitted via facsimile, data stream or other electronic means.
When selecting catalogs to stop, we suggest you have the actual catalogs with you so you can easily reference your customer number on the address portion of the book. Although not required, a customer number will make your cancellation more efficient.
We provide you with a Personal Account page so you can monitor the status of your stoppage notices. If a solicitor you've canceled continues sending you unwanted catalogs or junk mail more than 75 days after you request a cancellation, you simply click the Second Notice button to serve the company with a strongly-worded notice pursuant to United States statutory provisions pertaining to the U.S. Postal Service.

What is your time worth?
We think your time is worth at least $5.00 an hour. Would you agree?
Since it takes the average person at least 5-7 hours per year in paperwork
and phone calls to remove themselves from mail lists, you will have
already saved money using StopTheJunkMail.com -- and, that doesn't
even include the cost of stamps to mail written notices to certain
marketers.
If your time is worth more than $5.00 per hour (and we suspect it
is), the convenience of a one-stop source for canceling your catalogs
and junk mail is a no-brainer. Not to mention that you will have a
personal record of each item you've canceled in the event of any dispute
with the marketer.
Oh yeah, and $1.00 of your proceeds go to plant a tree in North America.
Even if you are not a hard core environmentalist, you can appreciate
the value of reforesting our great land.
So, is it worth the subscription cost times over? Well, we and thousands
like you think your time, the environment and your piece of mind certainly
is.
Why Join? (top)
* StopTheJunkMail.com is actually Internet-based software that allows
you to electronically deliver list removal notices to direct mail companies
rather than individually mailing or calling each of them. Assuming
your time is worth more than $5.00 an hour, you'll save many times
the subscription fee just using the service. That's not even counting
postage saved and a tree planted.
* Since you have a one-year membership, you may return to the site as much as
you’d like to remove new catalogs and junk mail as it arrives.
* With the Direct Marketing Association's cancellation service it's "all
or nothing" and you have to either remove yourself from virtually ALL lists
or NONE. StopTheJunkMail.com gives you individual choice to stop what you want
and continue receiving what you want. Of course, you can always select the Direct
Marketing Association from our Junk Mail list and put a blanket "no" on
many lists.
* While you are saving time, you are also saving paper in the process. Collectively,
we can have a tremendous impact on the environment just by ridding our mailboxes
of unwanted catalogs!
* For direct marketers, this software streamlines their databases, eliminating
individuals who will simply discard unwanted direct mail pieces. We at StopTheJunkMail.com
understand that in a commercial society, businesses must be free to communicate
with potential customers. One of our goals is to enable consumers to let direct
marketing companies know exactly who is and who IS NOT a potential customer.
* With the StopTheJunkMail.com service you can be assured that each solicitation
company you select will receive a personalized request from you requesting removal
from the solicitor's list. Notices are sent to the appropriate departments within
each company.
* For companies that have failed to remove your name from their list during the
first 75 days after your request, you also have a “Second Notice” tool
that allows you to send a legal notice requesting removal pursuant to United
States Post Office Prohibitory Notice rules.
* If you don’t see an item on our list, simply add it and we will take
care of the rest
Household Members (top)
Adding new household members to your account is easy regardless of
whether they have a different last name from yours.
You can add household members from Household/Employees page when you are logged in or from
the popup screen that follows your selection of catalogs and junk
mail.

When adding a new household member, it’s critical that you
include both first and last name, even if the member has your same
last name. If you receive mail for incorrect spellings of your name
and even people who no longer live at your address you may add them
to your householder list.
When selecting items to stop, you will be given the opportunity to
select the household members for whom the stop request is being made.
American Forests (top)
AMERICAN FORESTS is the nation's oldest nonprofit citizen conservation
organization, founded in 1875 by citizens concerned about waste and
abuse of the nation's forests. Their mission today remains helping
people improve the environment with trees and forests. They work to
ensure a sustainable future for our nation's forests - both urban and
rural - through national and international tree planting, forest policy,
urban forestry, and popular programs, such as The National Register
of Big Trees and Famous & Historic Trees. Their work is made possible
by generous contributions from concerned individuals, corporations
and other funders.
Through their Global ReLeaf program, they have planted more than 15
million trees in 500+ forest ecosystem restoration projects and urban
and community forest projects. Most of their projects are in Global
ReLeaf Forests, where they plant the right species in the right places
to reforest damaged public lands. The first Global ReLeaf Forest was
Michigan's AuSable State Forest where they planted jack pine to protect
the endangered Kirtland's warbler. Your StopThejunkMail.com membership
will help American Forests reach their goal of planting 20 million
trees for the new millennium.
