What do I do once I've registered?



Once you are registered, you can enter the site by clicking the “Login” button on the home page. Once in the site, you can stop as many items of junk mail as you are currently receiving and wish to stop. For help going through the process, click here.





What if I don't see my catalog or junk mail listed?



Don't worry. Just click on the "Cant find your publication? ...click here!" link right on the junk mail or catalog selection page. Once you enter the information, we'll establish a relationship with the company and add them to our database. You will be notified as soon as the addition is made.





Is my credit card safe?



Absolutely. Our site is certified by Verisign as a secure site with the highest encryption levels permitted for commercial sites like ours.





How long does it take for junk mail to stop?



It usually takes a couple of "mail cycles" before you stop receiving a catalog or piece of mail you’ve requested be stopped. If you are still receiving canceled items after 75 days, we have a “Second Notice” feature in your personal account page that will generate a follow-up notice to ensure that your name is removed promptly. Please note that requests for removal from the Direct Marketing Association’s list may take up to 6 months.





How do I get off credit card mailing lists?



The best way to get off of credit card mailing lists is to select the direct marketing companies listed under the "Direct Marketing" category of the "Direct Mail" tab.





Who plants the trees?



StopTheJunkMail.com has created a partnership with American Forests. We donate $1 of your proceeds to them and they, in turn, use those proceeds to plant one tree in North America. Each tree is between 1-6 feet tall, depending on the area in which it is planted.

I want to be able to sort my account alphabetically?



You view your account history alphabetically by selecting the upwards or downwards arrow next to the heading Items Stopped. You may also sort by the Stop date and the Household Member you stopped the catalogs for.





10. How do I stop a deceased loved one’s junk mail?



You can use stopthejunkmail.com to opt out for deceased loved ones by adding their names to the household member list. You may also go to the DMA’s service where you can add their names to their Deceased Do Not Contact list(DDNC).





Can I change my account address?



Yes, you can change your address by editing you profile. When you change your address you account history will contain all the stops you did for your old address and then you will add new stops for the new address. We usually recommend creating a new account for a new address or a 2nd address such as a PO Box. Please contact us if you wish to create a second account we can give you a Promotion code for a reduced subscription fee.





What if I have 2 addresses, such as PO Box and a home address?



If you have 2 addresses this requires 2 subscriptions. Please sign up with your primary address and then contact us so we may assist you with the second address.





Can a sign up my Business?



Yes, our service can handle a small business up to 25 employees. You will need t o appoint an administrator for your business account and then list each employee as a Member of the account. It works the same way as an individual subscription





How much does it cost for a Business subscription?



There are 3 levels of Business subscriptions. Level 1 is for 1-5 employees and is a cost of $24.95. Level 2 is for a small business with 6-15 employees and s a cost of $49.95, Level 3 is for a small business of 16-25 employees and is a cost of $89.95.





Can I send you a picture of my postal junk mail pile?



Yes Please! We welcome any photos or documentation that relates to a story you can tell. We are happy to post your photos on our site so our subscribers can follow your story. We can create a story based on a before and after shot of all your junk mail.





Can I stop Postal Junk Mail without your service?



Yes, absolutely. Our service is so you don’t have to spend your hours writing letters and emails. How much is your time worth? How much does it cost to send those letters. We figure that with 41c stamps that you will spend $20 after you have mailed 48 letters. If you want to do it yourself you would start with the DMA, and Experian, Equifax, Trans Union for credit cards and some catalogs. The DMA Mail Preference Service can substantially reduce the amount of Junk Mail you receive. The DMA is effective for members who subscribe to their service which includes cataloguers, financial services, publishers, book and music clubs, computer sellers, retail stores, internet services and others. You will continue to receive mail from non-DMA members that do not use their service. They also do not prevent companies from renting or selling your personal information. Stopping junk mail is a job that requires a lot of patience and thoroughness.





Do you stop Magazines?



Yes, we have many periodicals in our database. We also have a lot of financial newsletters and newspapers. The trick with these is to find the Customer service or membership outsourcers as these are the companies that hold the mailing lists. You may add a magazine at any time if we do not have it listed.





How many publications do you have?



We have a list over 9000 publications both Catalogs and direct mail companies. Our subscribers are always adding new suggestions and it is growing all the time.





Can you stop Sweepstakes advertising?



Yes and No. Sweepstakes companies are the sneakiest in the business. When you receive a sweepstakes advertisement you need to search for the sweepstake sponsor. Some are banks, some are major corporate companies. These sweepstake offers we can stop. Some however hide very well and do not supply a phone number, fax number or real address. All they supply are PO Box numbers. These companies we cannot do very much about. Our best advice here is to write to them and request they remove your name.





What can I do about local mailings from restaurants, etc...?



You need to go down to your local USPS and fill out Form PS 1500 to prohibit local mailings such as these. The local USPS is a big offender of junk mail and will do mass mailings on behalf of local businesses.





Can I add my name to a "Do Not Mail" list like the "Do Not Call" list?



No, we do not have such a list and neither does any other service. Some states are trying to br/ing legislation in to create a “Do Not Mail” list, you should check with your local government to find out the progress. Here in Colorado the legislation was rejected "because 50% of USPS postal mail is generated from Junk mail. They withdraw the legislation after they figured out it would put 50% of the states Postal workers out of jobs.





How does stopthejunkmail.com stop junk mail?



Our system is ALL online, we ask you to select the publications you are receiving and wish to stop using our 9000 or so strong database that we have built over the years through research and relationships. Once you create your mailing list removal list we will process your order electronically immediately by contacting each company you have chosen.
We request each company remove your name from their mailing lists and also ask that your name not be rented or sold.

All we ask is that you supply as much information from the address label as possible including Account numbers, the exact name as it appears on the label, source code, key code or reservation number for credit card offers.

When the direct mailers receive our requests most reply in writing directly to you to confirm the request or to our customer Service department via email.

You may check your Account to keep track of the publications you have stopped and related address label information.





Do I have to send postcards out?



No, we do not require that you send any postcards out to anyone nor do we ask you to sign anything.





What happens if I receive another catalog the same but with different account numbers?



If you receive another catalog with a different account number or different spelling of your name then you need to create a new order and treat the catalog as a new catalog, not a second stop for an order you placed earlier.

Our main business is stopping catalogs and direct mail. We can stop big departments tores, banks, credit card offers, sweepstakes offers, charities, fun-raisers, Insurance, Political, Magazines, newsletters, religious non-profits, Educational facilities, medical, entertainment, Financials, professional and many others that are constantly being added to our systems by our subscribers.





Is my subscription fee tax deductible?



No, unfortunately not. Stopthejunkmail.com is not a non-profit organization so members cannot claim a deduction on taxes.
